Newspaper groups appear to be moving to boycott the new system of press regulation, according to reports in the Guardian.
A split appears to be emerging between publishers of the Sun and the Daily Mail and the Daily Telegraph, meaning that the other remaining groups which includes the Guardian and the Independent, would be the only titles regulated by the government-backed watchdog.
There also seems to be international condemnation from some on the plan.
YouGov stats show strong support for the regulator with a majority of 81 per cent of respondents backing the proposals.
