Skype surpasses 2bn minutes a day milestone

Internet communications stalwart Skype has celebrated notching up 2bn minutes of user call time per day and for those who cannot easily wrap there head around such a figure the firm has kindly broken it down in a series of comparisons courtesy of a handy infographic.

The Microsoft owned company points out that this is enough time to travel to the moon and back over 225 thousand times, walk around Earth more than 845 times or travel to Mars more than 5,400 times.

It also crunches some numbers to conclude that 2bn minutes is the equivalent of 33m hours of nattering, or 1,388,000 days of hob-nobbing with family and friends, which is the same as 3,805 years of webcam chat which all adds up to a mighty 38 centuries of Sype time each and every day.

On Skype’s Big Blog, Elisa Steele wrote: “2 billion minutes is a testament to our users who are making Skype the everyday communications hub that brings people together. This massive amount of connection – enough time to watch 1.6 million movies – is also a testament to the hard work of our product teams who have enabled these great experiences.”
